Bathroom and Kitchen Cabinets – to Match or Not to Match, that is the Question

139

When I take up a project of interior designing and renovation, the first thing that I have to do is educate the client. Often, they come up with some amazing ideas about how they want the house to look like, but they don’t have the practical knowledge of functionality. That is why, no matter how much aesthetically valuable their idea is, they often lack the balance. One of such cases is matching all the cabinets and vanities in your home.

Most of the time, my clients keep asking, is it necessary to match the bathroom vanities with the kitchen cabinets? Well, apparently, this is a common idea that to strike the balance in the look of the house it is necessary to keep it unified. However, in my long career of being a designer, I have realized there is not hard and fast rule for deciding whether the cabinets should match or not. Rather there are many factors if you decide to match them.

Are you planning the design or want to renovate your home anytime soon and struck between the choices of whether you should match them or not? If yes, then you are at the right place. My suggestion for you is to think about the factors that I am going to mention here and then, decide what you must do. Take a look at the following points to know more.

Proximity

When you are thinking, whether you should choose same kitchen cabinets and vanities for the bathroom, think about the proximity. This factor will help you decide whether you should match it or not. If the bathroom is just the powder room off the kitchen, then you have to think of matching them. In such a situation, it is necessary for you to strike the right balance of the cabinets. For that, choose similar cabinets that will complete the look.

Complementary

If the bathroom and the kitchen are not located in close proximity then think of complementary cabinets and bathroom vanity cabinets. Think of complementary styles so that it will add an interesting touch of creativity in your home. If you are thinking of a tradition kitchen, plant a modern styled bathroom at your home. You can follow it in the case of color and textureas well. If you are designing the kitchen in a bright hue, think of a subdued color in your bathroom. Such kinds of complementary designs will surely reflect your personality and quirk.

Don’t think of it as an Obligation

As I have already said, there is no compulsion that the cabinets have to match. Don’t think of it as an obligation to you. There is no compulsion that you have to match the vanities. Rather, often overdoing will kill the charm of the home as well.

Match the Parts

If you don’t want to invest in the identical cabinets for your bathroom and kitchen, think about matching the fine details. Pay attention to the metals, handles and mirrors. These tiny details can lend a unified look to your space. Your aim is to strike a balance. These elements will perfectly do it.

Don’t go OTT

If you have decided to get everything matched, then don’t overdo it. It will completely ruin the mood and warmth of your home. Too much of sync can make everything feel artificial. If you are not letting it look natural and casual, it is going to make your home carefully designed and clinical. A bit of flamboyance can make your home look more warm and welcoming.

So, now as you have gone through the factors that I have already mentioned above, I am sure you will be able to find a right solution for your home. Consult a trusted interior designer and share your ideas.
