One of the most iconic lamps is created by the Danish designer Poul Henningsen. Find the wide selection of PH-lamps and lampemesteren.com.

Poul Henningsen, the man behind the PH-lamps, was born in Copenhagen in 1894. He never completed his education in architecture but studied at Copenhagen Technical School from 1911-1914 and attended the Technical University of Denmark for three years.

That led him to an amazing success because of his best-known works the PH glass lamps, hat lamp, artichoke, snowball, PH80 lamps and PH50. All the lamps he made for Louis Poulsen. Now you almost can’t find a home without a PH lamp. The series includes both table lamps, wall lamps, floor lamps and pendants, and they are very timeless, elegant and stylish.

Poul Henningsen started out working in traditional functionalist architecture, but over time his professional interests shifted to lighting and that was where he became famous. In the beginning of the Second World War he worked as an architect at Tivoli in Copenhagen for a short period, but he fled from Denmark during the German occupation of Denmark. He lived in exile, and he quickly became a vital part of the Danish colony of architects living in Sweden.

In 1925 Poul Henningsen started designing lamps for Louis Poulsen Lightning and he continued until his death in 1967. Therefore, Louis Poulsen still enjoys the benefits of his genius today. Also, Poul Henningsen was the first editor of Louis Poulsen’s magazine NYT because he also had an interest in journalism. Poul Henningsen was also the first editor of Louis Poulsen Lighting’s magazine NYT.

Today Poul Henningsen is seen on as pioneer on lightning theory. His structure, shadow, glare and colour reproduction in relation to humans need for light is still being used today at Louis Poulsen Lightning, and his lamps will probably still be sold worldwide in many years because of their timeless designs, elegance and the amazing quality.
